Phoenix Rising

Phoenix Rising

Phoenix Rising by Tara Dean

I purchased this painting a couple of years ago.   The minute I saw it I knew I wanted it.   The artist is a friend of mine and I enjoy patronizing original work especially when it is from someone I know.   There is usually more behind the scenes when I buy a piece.   Little did I know the impact of this when I bought it.

Last November I was getting ready to head to town early and I noticed what appeared to be a cat on the road.   With my heart in my throat I rushed to see who it was thinking surely this was a casualty in my feline pride.   To my relief it was not one of our kitties but more than likely a stray in the neighborhood.   Thinking surely this kitty was deceased, by the time I reached the house with kitty in tow, she started making mewing noises.   It was one of those rare times when I needed to leave but I decided to stay and wait with this little one until she made her transition.   So I sat with her.    And I sat with her.   After several hours of being late for my engagement I decided to wrap her in towels and leave her on the bed.

When I arrived home that afternoon it was if Jesus had sprung from the tomb and there was no kitten wrapped in towels.   We looked under the bed and there she was ALIVE!   It was astonishing to see her sitting upright hiding in the crevices beneath the bed.   We scooped her up and off to see the vet.    Dr. Deb looked her over and reported that she appeared to be a survivor. We named her Phoenix Rising.
